petrol prices

Am I missing something? Every week or so, petrol prices seem to creep up by 1p per litre. I think there has been about 6p increase since the start of the year. Is this a government stealth tax or are prices from the Middle East rocketing. I haven't seen anything in the news.

We have a similar problem here in Sydney - here you don't buy petrol on a Thursday, for some reason petrol goes up to say $1.37/litre and then gradually drops down until Monday is a good day at about $1.24/litre. People complain, TV programmes try to get to the cause, unsuccessfully, and the phenomonom (is that right) just continues on week after week after week.

Here's an example of what I mentioned yesterday, this morning the price per litre was $1.26.9. I went to fill up this evening and the price at the bowser was $1.39.9 & no explanation will be issued although I did hear that the refinery workers were looking for a pay increase or something, that cannot affect the bowser price immediately.

What really annoys me is that petrol is priced in an unheard-of currency fraction, ie: 94.99p per litre. If I wanted to buy just one litre how would I pay over the .99 of a pence? It isn't possible. How do they get away with it?
