mobile phone masts

Mobile phone masts are sprouting up everywhere, like Japanese knotweed. There's even one being erected not 15 feet from my desk at work and I don't like it one bit. Back in the 50s they told us smoking was good for you, and no-one realised how working with asbestos was so dangerous until people started dropping dead from the effects of inhaling the fibres. The whole mobile phone technonogy is so new that we don't know what the long-term effects will be, so surely we should be more cautious about where the masts being sited. The planners don't seem to take any notice of public protest, so short of padlocking myself to the fence, what can I do?

Hello Caroni,

I have been reading recently that people power is actually resulting in the removal of some mobile phone masts as evidence seems to indicate that they could indeed be harmful to the health.  In Marldon, near Torquay, I believe that the local bellringers made a stand against a mobile phone mast that was planned right by their beautiful church.

I think that rather like smoking, it will eventually be proven that masts are definitely not good for you.  Are we prepared to give up talking on our mobiles - I hope so.
