We often take them for granted, but churches are often full of fascinating curiosities. Do you have any in your church?

Church Conundrums

Devon's churches are full of curiosities, from green men on the ceiling bosses, weird epitaphs on the gravestones to strange carvings on the bench ends. Does your church have a curiosity that you'd like to share with other readers?

Does anyone out there know about Voiolet Pinwill carvings? Violet was the daughter of a past rector of Ermington, and developed a quite extraordinary skill in woodcarving, setting up her own business. Ermington church has examples of her work and so does Stoke Fleming. I'd be interested in hearing of anyone else who knows about her work in any Devon churches.
