Couldn't your village benefit from its own local weather station?

Ivor Williams' article features our village weather station in Stoke Gabriel. It's a community effort, with the parish council, the school, the boating association and several local businesses all contributing to the initial cost. As Ivor says, Devon has very localised weather and we are already enjoying being able to compare our favourable climate with that continuously logged on the Haytor amateur weather station: www.lyneside.demon.co.uk/Haytor/automatic/Current_Vantage_Pro.htm. We have less rain, less wind and higher temperatures down here by the River Dart.

The more local weather stations there are in the county with continuous web access, the more we shall understand the quirks of our own local weather;  and the more local people can benefit in their day-to-day decisions that are dependent on the weather.

If you are interested in setting up a village weather station in you area I would be pleased to here from you.

Our station now uploads to a new website:  www.stokegabrielweather.org.uk.
